Certiport Console for iQsystem 7

PAGE SUMMARY

Certiport’s iQsystem 7 exam delivery software requires full, local Windows Admin access with no Group Policies enabled during all phases of operation: install, setup, configuration, update, sync (Offline Mode only), and testing. Authorized Testing Centers who do not wish to give this type of access to the end user can install this additional Certiport Console software over the top of iQsystem to create a kiosk for administrative privileges by storing the Admin credentials and only applying them when the software is accessed. When installed, Certiport Console will act as the front-end to iQsystem and allow the software to be operated under a limited Windows user account. Certiport Console is supported in Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8/8.1.

PROCEDURE

There are three primary steps to incorporating Certiport Console: Enabling the Super Admin account, downloading and installing the Console software, and initializing Certiport Console settings.

NOTE: You must log in as a Windows Administrator before completing these steps.

STEP 1: Enabling the Super Admin Account: This step is only required for Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8/8.1 machines - Windows XP Users may skip to Step 2.

To watch a video of the Super Admin activation process, please click here.

  1. The Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8/8.1 (32- and 64-bit) environments automatically disable the "Super Admin" account. In order for Certiport Console to run in these environments this account must be enabled.
  2. Navigate to the Start Menu, and then open the Control Panel.
  3. Select Administrative Tools and double-click Computer Management.
  4. There will be an administrator account with a white down arrow (indicating it is disabled). Right click on this account and select set password.
  5. Create a password for the administrator account.
  6. Once again right click on the account and select Properties.
  7. There will be a box checked saying "Account is Disabled". Uncheck this box to re-enable the Super Admin account.
  8. Log off the current account and sign in to the newly enabled Super Admin account.
  9. Once signed into the Super Admin account, activate the Microsoft Office suite by opening the Office applications you will be using for testing and acknowledging any first time prompts so they do not appear later.

STEP 2: Downloading and Installing the Certiport Console Software:

If iQsystem is not already installed then install iQsystem first. Please click here for instructions to download and install iQsystem on the machine.

NOTE: Windows XP users must complete this step while logged into the computer as the local Windows Administrator. Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8/8.1 users must complete this step while logged into the computer as the "Super Admin".

  1. Click here to download the CertiportConsole.msi file and save the file to your desktop. In case you cannot access the Certiport Console link from this document, copy and paste the following URL into your computer’s browser: ftp://ftp.certiport.com/admin/iqsystem/iqlaunch/certiportconsole.msi - NOTE: FTP traffic is different than normal HTTP traffic and comes in through a different port. If you cannot access the above FTP URL please contact your Network Administrator.
  2. Run the downloaded CertiportConsole.msi file to begin the installation. (This type of file can also be mass deployed through directory services.)
  3. Follow the remaining instructions to complete the installation. When complete, there will be a "Certiport Console" icon on the desktop.
  4. Installation of Certiport Console will automatically delete the original three iQsystem shortcut icons from your desktop: iQsystem Exams, Certiprep, and iQsystem Tools and replace them with a single icon called Certiport Console which will contain those three items within the new front-end interface.

STEP 3: Initializing the Certiport Console Settings:

NOTE: Windows XP users must complete this step while logged into the computer as the local Windows Administrator. Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8/8.1 users must complete this step while logged into the computer as the "Super Admin".

  1. Double Click on the Certiport Console icon to launch the application.
  2. Click on the "System Admin" button. Enter the Windows Admin credentials when prompted.
    • On Windows XP, this is the Local Admin account.
    • On Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8/8.1 this is the "Super Admin" account.

Certiport Console is now set up and ready to use. You will now only see one icon on your system desktop:

  3. Double-click on the Certiport Console shortcut to launch iQsystem. The main window will display:

  4. Console

There are three main options within Certiport Console:

  • iQsystem Exams: A Test Candidate clicks this option to launch iQsystem and take an exam. This is the replacement for the blue "iQsystem Exams" desktop icon.
  • Certiprep:  A Test Candidate clicks this option to launch iQsystem and take Certiprep practice tests. This is the replacement for the red "Certiprep" desktop icon.
  • iQsystem Tools:  A Certiport Organization Administrator uses this option to launch iQsystem Tools. This is the replacement for the green "iQsystem Tools" desktop icon.

The last option is the System Admin option, described in the Step 3 above. If the admin credentials ever change, this option can be used to update the credentials for Certiport Console.

Selecting any of these options will cause iQsystem to launch, with a user experience and behavior identical to using the original desktop icons — except that iQsystem is now able to run under a non-Admin Windows account.
