A: Champions of Digital Literacy recognizes and celebrates individuals who demonstrate extraordinary commitment, effort and success in championing the adoption of digital literacy standards in the schools, organizations, and communities they represent.

Q: Is the Champions of Digital Literacy program a competition?

A: No; it is an awards and recognition program. Each candidate is considered based on his or her own accomplishments and activities in promoting digital literacy.

Q: Who can become a Champion of Digital Literacy?

A: Champions may include anyone in education, government, business, or the community who understands and promotes the importance of digital literacy skills.

Q: What do Champions of Digital Literacy do?

A: Champions of Digital Literacy are the driving force for bringing digital literacy standards to the forefront of their respective constituents. They promote the adoption of digital literacy standards, resulting in more effective learning and the competitive edge required of current and future workforces.

Q: What are the benefits of becoming a Champion of Digital Literacy?

A: The Champions of Digital Literacy program features three prestigious tiers of recognition. The description and associated benefits for each are:

Champions of Digital Literacy
A distinction bestowed on select individuals who champion digital literacy in their respective spheres, Champions of Digital Literacy wield their influence to foster personal transformation—brought to those they assist in crossing the Digital Divide. Individuals nominated and accepted as Champions of Digital Literacy receive:

  • Recognition by Certiport as a Champion of Digital Literacy on the corporate Web site
  • Press release detailing Champions of Digital Literacy
  • Invitation to provide on-going market insight as a digital literacy subject matter expert

Champions of Digital Literacy Hall of Fame
The Hall of Fame honors the exemplary efforts of individuals who transform the global landscape of education and employment through the promotion of digital literacy standards. Individuals from three world regions (the Americas; Europe, the Middle East, and Africa; and Asia-Pacific) are selected based on verified accomplishments as well as the scope and impact of their efforts. Hall of Fame inductees receive:

  • Recognition by Certiport as a Champion of Digital Literacy Hall of Fame member on the corporate Web site
  • Press release detailing Champions of Digital Literacy Hall of Fame recognition
  • Audio interview recorded and posted on the Web as a podcast
  • Success story explaining inductee's accomplishments
  • All-expenses-paid trip to engage and interact with other inductees during Certiport PATHWAYS 2009 in Toronto, Canada
  • Press coverage with an invitation extended to a qualified member of the inductee's national press to attend the PATHWAYS event
  • Video interview conducted during PATHWAYS 2009 and broadcast on the Web
  • Award reception during the Gala Night Banquet on the last evening of PATHWAYS 2009 with the opportunity to address the world

Inspiration Award
Regarded as the highest honor of the Champions of Digital Literacy program, one inductee into the Hall of Fame is also chosen as the Inspiration Award winner. The Inspiration Award is given in recognition of the visionary leadership required to transform communities and nations through large-scale digital literacy initiatives. Along with this singular recognition, the Inspiration Award winner enjoys all the Hall of Fame member benefits enumerated above.

Q: When are this year's Champions of Digital Literacy recognized?

A: All Champions are recognized during and following the annual Certiport PATHWAYS event to be held July 2009 in Toronto, Canada.

Q: How many Champions of Digital Literacy are chosen each year?

A: There is no set number of recipients for the Champions of Digital Literacy recognition; however, only a select number of individuals worldwide are chosen to be inducted into the Hall of Fame each year.

Q: How long has the Champions of Digital Literacy program been in place?

A: The program began in 2005.

Q: Who can nominate a Champion?

A: Anyone can nominate oneself or another individual as a Champion of Digital Literacy. Nominations will most likely come from colleagues or co-workers of nominees.

Q: What is the nomination process?

A: A nomination form must be completed and submitted via the Web. (Click here to go to the online nomination form.) All nominations are due by December 1, 2008.

Q: How are the Champions of Digital Literacy selected?

A: The Champions of Digital Literacy Review Committee comprised of Certiport Executives and others will review each application received. Some nominators will be contacted for further information.

Q: How will those selected as Champions be notified?

A: With the help of nominators, Certiport will contact winners by phone or e-mail. At that point, additional arrangements may be made for any other follow-up communications.
