Certiport sponsors the work of the Global Digital Literacy Council (GDLC), which represents a global delegation of key stakeholders, including corporate executives, government officials, academicians and industry luminaries—all focused on the identification of issues, definition of best practices, and research and development of programs related to Global Digital Literacy.
The Council met to create and define Global Standard 3 for Certiport Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³®), the third iteration of the world's premier digital literacy standard, in Hawaii following the Certiport PATHWAYS 2008 international conference. The official signing to ratify new standard took was held August 1, 2008, marking the next evolution in the ongoing improvement and updating of the Certiport IC³. The development of the Global Standard 3 took over 9 months of research, data collection from 400+ subject matter experts from over 30 countries and final ratification from the members of the Global Digital Literacy Council. By going through this rigorous process it ensures that Global Standard 3 is not only current and relevant, but a true global digital literacy standard.
Previously, a formal summit to update the global standard was held October 2003 in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England.
The digital literacy council will continue to meet regularly as a function of the rolling development cycle to discuss technical and social changes affecting digital literacy standards in education and the workforce.
