Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam Launches IC3 Digital Literacy Certification For All Primary, Secondary and Post-Secondary Students

Department of Education and Training requires students and teachers take IC3 to build a competitive workforce for the global economy

Ho Chi Minh City, VIETNAM – September 24, 2014

Certiport (www.certiport.com), a Pearson VUE business, the leading test delivery solution provider for the global workforce and academic markets, today announces Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam has adopted IC3 Digital Literacy certification in all primary, secondary and post-secondary schools. With a population of 8 million, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training aims to prepare all individuals for the global workforce by teaching in-demand information technology skills.

"We must prepare our students from a very young age to be knowledgeable in technology," said Mr. Le Hong Son, Director, Department of Education and Training, Ho Chi Minh City. "The IC3 Digital Literacy certifications fit into our curriculum and provide a way for students to learn the basics. We are particularly excited about starting the program with our primary age students."

Ho Chi Minh City will work with local Certiport partner IIG Vietnam to deliver certification exams in Authorized Certiport Testing Centers throughout the city. All teachers will be required to take IC3.

Certificates for Teachers

Primary school students age 9 to 10 will train with IC3 Spark, a new certification offered by Certiport to teach children basic computing skills, key applications, and use of the Internet. Secondary school students age 12 to 14, post-secondary school students, and all teachers will learn the same principles with IC3 Global Standard 4. High school students age 15 to 18 will also earn Adobe Certified Associate or Microsoft Office Specialist certification as part of the program.

"Ho Chi Minh City’s education leaders understand the importance of foundation level computer skills," said Nich Haber, who manages the IC3 business for Certiport. "They know that certifying their students in Digital Literacy will help their workforce compete in the global economy. They signed a multi-year agreement to implement IC3, and seeing it spread throughout their school system is inspiring. We look forward to watching the long term results as these students gain valuable technical skills."
