Certiport Facilitates Idea Exchange Between Vietnam and Broward County Public Schools Officials

Principals from 20 Elementary Schools in Vietnam Visit Gator Run Elementary and Indian Trace Elementary to Observe and Discuss IC3 Spark Digital Literacy Certification

Salt Lake City, UTAH – 1 June 2016

Certiport (www.certiport.com), a Pearson VUE business, the leading test delivery solution provider for the global workforce and academic markets, today announces an idea exchange where education officials from 20 elementary schools in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam will visit Gator Run Elementary and Indian Trace Elementary today in Broward County, Florida to discuss IC3 Spark digital literacy certification.

IC3 Spark is a certification specifically designed to build a solid foundation in digital concepts for primary and middle school age children. IC3 Spark has been implemented in Ho Chi Minh City and at three schools in Broward County. The idea exchange provides an opportunity to discuss shared experiences and offer tips for helping students earn certification.

“We are excited to make this connection with the schools in Ho Chi Minh City and to demonstrate the technology skills our students are learning. Engaging our students with technology is an important piece to becoming part of the global community,” said Keith Peters, Principal, Gator Run Elementary School. “We’re proud of our students’ work toward earning certifications, which they can build upon throughout their education.”

IC3 and IC3 Spark make up 4 of the 15 certifications named on the Florida Department of Education Digital Tools List deemed as appropriate for elementary and middle school students. IC3 Spark is a single, 50-minute exam that covers objectives spanning basic computing skills, key applications, and the use of the Internet.

“We are finding great success with IC3 Spark and we look forward to sharing best practices with the Florida schools,” said Mr. Le Hoai Nam, Deputy General Director, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education. “Our students know how to use a cell phone and a tablet but IC3 Spark ensures they have the skills they need to use technology in an academic setting going forward.”

According to Common Sense Media, by age 8, 90 percent of children have used a computer. IC3 Spark prepares children in grades 4 through 7 to use technology efficiently and gives them a measurable foundation to continue to learn advanced technology skills. At a very young age they can add IC3 Spark certification to their transcripts and take pride in earning their first technology certification.
