In presentations there are times that you just need to show something, rather than just talking about it. For these situations, consider using screen captures. A screen capture is a snapshot of your computer screen, just as if you were to take a digital picture of it. You can copy and use a screen capture to illustrate a point or give step-by-step directions. For example, this is a screen shot of the DATT homepage:
To obtain a screen capture (sometimes called a screen shot):
- Once all of the elements on your desktop are as you want them to appear in the screen capture, press the Print Screen (sometimes abbreviated to Print Scrn) button on your keyboard. This puts a copy of the image on the clipboard.
- Paste the screen capture into your document by selecting Edit » Paste from the drop-down menu, or simply typing Ctrl + V.
- Delete the parts of the image you don't want by using the Crop tool on the Picture toolbar. To do this, simply click on the picture, select the Crop tool, then click on any of the picture's sizing handles and drag your cursor to crop the image. The part outside of the new cursor location will be cropped off.
- Resize the image using the corner sizing handles. Click the picture to select it and display the sizing handles, then place your cursor over one of the sizing handles to display a double-headed arrow. Now just click and drag to resize the image. It is always best to resize from a corner in order to keep the proportions of the picture the same.
