Inserting Pictures

Inserting pictures into a Word document is a simple way to make a document more interesting to students. A simple piece of clip art can brighten their day. To add an image to your document – and place it properly with your text – follow these simple instructions:

  1. To Insert a piece of clip art, click Insert » Picture » Clip Art.
  2. A task pane will appear on the right-hand side of your screen. Type in a search term for the type of artwork you want to use in your document and press Search (Go in 2003). A list of items that satisfy your search request will appear (You can speed up your search by limiting the search options to "clip art"). You can then browse through the clip art to find the right picture. Simply click on the item to insert it in your document (it will be inserted at the location of your cursor).
  3. Clip Art also can be found on the Internet, but you should beware of inappropriate sites and make sure to read the copyright rules for any use of another's art in your documents.
  4. To enable pictures to share a line with text (wrapping), simply right-click on the picture and choose Format Picture. Then click on the Layout tab.
  5. Test the different wrapping styles to see which one suits your needs best.
  6. Once the picture is formatted, use the arrowed crosshair to drag the image to the desired place in your document.
