FBLA Adds Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certifications as Pilot NLC Competitive Events

Certiport Inc. is pleased to announce an exciting enhancement to its growing business relationship with Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Starting with the 2013 FBLA National Leadership Conference (NLC) in Anaheim, California, FBLA will introduce two new pilot Competitive Events comprising of Certiport-sponsored Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exams.

FBLA's official offering of pilot Competitive Events at the 2013 NLC will now include the following MOS certification exams:

How Students can Compete

FBLA student members must register as a Certiport Testing Candidate and take a Qualifying MOS Certification Exam
to participate in the new 2013 NLC Pilot Competitive Events for Microsoft Word and Excel.

Step 1: Register as a Certiport Testing Candidate Click to expand details

  • Visit www.certiport.com
  • Select "Register" and complete the User Registration process to setup a Certiport Testing Candidate Profile.
     
  • CRITICAL: Within the User Registration process, students MUST identify themselves as an FBLA member.
    • Select "Yes" below "Are you affiliated with any national student organizations?"
    • Check the box next to "FBLA."
  • If you already have a Certiport account, update your profile to indicate your FBLA affiliation.
    • Visit www.certiport.com
    • Login using your Username and Password.
    • Select "My Profile" at the top margin of the Certiport page.
    • Select the "Profile" tab.
    • Click the “Edit” button at the bottom of the page.
    • Ensure "Student" is selected under Status.
    • CRITICAL: Select "Yes" for "Are you affiliated with any national student organizations?"
    • Check the box next to "FBLA."
    • Click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page.

Step 2: Take a Qualifying MOS Certification Exam Click to expand details

  • Take either or both of the two 2010 MOS certification exams (MOS Word 2010, MOS Excel 2010 core exams) at your school or another Certiport Authorized Testing Center from September 1, 2012 to March 31, 2013.
  • Students who have taken the eligible MOS certification exams prior to reading this announcement can register their completed exam(s) for the NLC Pilot Competitive Event consideration by updating their Certiport Testing Candidate Profile. This action must be completed by March 31, 2013.
    • Visit www.certiport.com.
    • Login using your Username and Password.
    • Select "My Profile" at the top margin of the Certiport page.
    • Select the "Profile" tab.
    • Click the "Edit" button at the bottom of the page.
    • Ensure "Student" is selected under Status.
    • CRITICAL: Select "Yes" for "Are you affiliated with any national student organizations?"
    • Check the box next to "FBLA."
    • Click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page.
    • Students may test as many times as permitted by the School Adviser during the Qualification Period (September 1, 2012 through March 31, 2013). Certiport will use the highest score for NLC Competitive Event qualification.

Step 3: Three Qualifiers for Each Event from Each State Click to expand details

  • On April 15, 2013, FBLA and Certiport will announce THREE QUALIFIERS for each event from each state, who will then be invited to compete at the 2013 NLC Pilot Competitive Events for Word and Excel in Anaheim, CA.
  • Hence, each state can potentially send 6 students to 2013 NLC:
    • 3 for Microsoft Office Word 2010
    • 3 for Microsoft Office Excel 2010

Step 4: Compete at the NLC events Click to expand details

  • At the 2013 FBLA NLC in Anaheim, CA, FBLA and Certiport will administer Word 2010 Expert and Excel 2010 Expert certification exams to competing students in FBLA's onsite testing lab.
  • Important: DO NOT confuse FBLA's competitive testing lab with Certiport's free certification testing lab.
  • Winning criteria for each event will be based on exam high score first; then lowest exam time for any potential tie-breakers.

Step 5: Winners Advance to Compete in MOS World Championship! Click to expand details

  • After the two winners of Word 2010 and Excel 2010 are recognized at the NLC Awards Ceremonies, each will be invited to compete at Certiport's Microsoft Office Specialist World Championships in Washington D.C. on July 29-30, 2013, where they will compete with the best and brightest students from around the world in this highly competitive and publicized event.
  • Although not a NLC Competitive Event, the top scoring FBLA student for MOS PowerPoint 2010 will also qualify and be invited to compete at Certiport's MOS World Championships in Washington D.C.
    • MOS PowerPoint 2010 certification exams will be administered at the 2013 NLC in Certiport's free certification testing lab.
  • For the MOS World Championships, Certiport will cover all associated travel expenses for student competitors and one parent/advisor/guardian per student. Visit www.OfficeCompetition.com to learn more.

MOS and establish your school as a Certiport Authorized Testing Center (CATC).
