FBLA Certification Options

FBLA COMPETITIVE EVENTS—MICROSOFT WORD 2013 AND EXCEL 2013

Certiport Inc. is pleased to announce its continued participation at FBLA's National Leadership Conference. Certiport will once again introduce the Microsoft Office Specialist Certifications as Competitive Events at the 2017 NLC in Anaheim, CA.

FBLA's official offering of Competitive Events at the 2017 NLC will include the following MOS Certification exams:

How Students can Compete

FBLA student members must register as a Certiport Testing Candidate and take a Qualifying MOS Certification Exam to participate in the 2017 NLC Competitive Events for Microsoft Word and Excel. Each state is allowed to submit the top three participants scoring the highest in each test for national competition.

Step 1: Register as a Certiport Testing Candidate Click to expand details

  • Visit www.certiport.com
  • Select "Register" and complete the User Registration process to setup a Certiport Testing Candidate Profile.
     
  • CRITICAL: Within the User Registration process, students MUST identify themselves as a member by selecting "FBLA" in the Student Organizations field. Also, be sure to check the box confirming that you authorize Certiport to contact you via email regarding promotional offers and events.
  • If you already have a Certiport account, update your profile to indicate your FBLA affiliation.
    • Visit www.certiport.com
    • Login using your Username and Password.
    • Select "My Profile" at the top margin of the Certiport page.
    • Select the "Profile" tab.
    • Click the “Edit” button at the bottom of the page.
    • Ensure "Student" is selected under Status.
    • CRITICAL:Select "Yes" for "Are you affiliated with any national student organizations?"
    • Check the box next to "FBLA."
    • Click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page.

Step 2: Take a Qualifying MOS Certification Exam Click to expand details

Take either of the two 2013 MOS certification exams (MOS Word 2013, MOS Excel 2013 core exams) at your school from August 1, 2016 to March 1, 2017.*

  • Students who have taken either of the eligible MOS certification exams prior to reading this announcement can register their completed exam(s) for NLC Competitive Event consideration by updating their Certiport Testing Candidate Profile. This action must be completed by March 1, 2017.
    • Visit www.certiport.com.
    • Login using your Username and Password.
    • Select "My Profile" at the top margin of the Certiport page.
    • Select the "Profile" tab.
    • Ensure "Student" is selected under Status.
    • CRITICAL: Select "FBLA" in the Student Organizations field.
    • Check the box next to "FBLA."
    • Click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page.
    • In order to maximize their scores, students may take the exam multiple times during the Qualification Period (August 1, 2016 – March 1, 2017). However, the ability for students to take additional exams may be limited by the school’s own policies or by the number of exam vouchers that have been purchased (either as individual vouchers or via a site license). Please note, if retake vouchers have been purchased, the retake exam is only available to the student if they have failed to pass the exam on the first attempt. To purchase test vouchers/site license or for questions about your existing voucher or license, contact your Territory Manager here. Certiport will use the highest score for FBLA NLC Competitive Event qualification.
  • In the event your school does not offer MOS Certification exams as part of its curriculum:
    • Advisers are encouraged to contact Certiport to learn about special MOS certification exam offerings to FBLA Chapters.
      • Visit www.certiport.com/fbla
        • Cap the cost of certifying your members. Now you can afford to implement testing across all of your programs and courses with the K-12 Classroom Site License from Certiport.
      • Contact Certiport to learn more.
    • Students can locate and test at a public Certiport Authorized Testing Center (CATC).
      • Visit www.certiport.com.
      • Select "Locate a Testing Center" under the Test Candidates tab.
      • Note: Certification testing fees apply at public CATCs.

Step 3: Three Qualifiers for Each Event from Each State Click to expand details

After the March 1st deadline, FBLA and Certiport will announce THREE QUALIFIERS for each event from each state, who will then be invited to compete at the 2017 NLC in Anaheim, CA.

  • Hence, each state can potentially send 6 students to 2017 NLC:
    • 3 for Microsoft Office Word 2013
    • 3 for Microsoft Office Excel 2013

At the 2017 FBLA NLC in Anaheim, CA, FBLA and Certiport will administer Word 2013 Expert and Excel 2013 Expert certification exams to competing students in FBLA's onsite testing lab.

  • Winning criteria for each event will be based on exam high score first; then lowest exam time for any potential tie-breakers.
