Certiport to Induct Peruvian Educator of Technical Skills into Champions of Digital Literacy Hall of Fame

SENATI and Schreier Reck use industry-recognized certification to develop skills and acquire better paying jobs for often-underprivileged youth in Peru

SALT LAKE CITY — July 23, 2009

Ray Kelly, CEOCertiport today announced Peter Schreier Reck, national director of the National Service for Industrial Works Skills or SENATI, will be recognized for his efforts in promoting digital literacy. Schreier Reck has been selected for induction into this year’s Champions of Digital Literacy Hall of Fame and is a candidate with five others for the highest honor of the recognition program: the Inspiration Award.

"The exemplary work of each inductee into the Hall of Fame reminds us that individuals can make a difference in bridging the Digital Divide in their communities and countries," said Ray Kelly, president and CEO of Certiport. "Mr. Schreier Reck and SENATI are laying the foundation for economic growth in Peru by focusing on skills and credentials for high-demand employment."

In January 2009, SENATI was approved by the National Council to include Certiport Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³®) curricula and certification as the official digital literacy course for students in all of SENATI’s technical tracks. Digital literacy is promoted where SENATI offers courses to both students and community members. This year, SENATI plans to train more than 128,000 youth under the new curriculum for meeting global standards of digital literacy and preparing for certification.

Schreier Reck and others will be welcomed into the Hall of Fame preceding the announcement of the Inspiration Award winner Aug. 1 at the Certiport PATHWAYS™ 2009 international conference. The Champions of Digital Literacy Hall of Fame was established in 2005 to honor the exemplary efforts of individuals across the globe that champion the adoption of digital literacy standards. Each year, nominations are received from around the world and award recipients are selected based on the measurable scope and social impact of their efforts. The Champions of Digital Literacy Inspiration Award is given in recognition of the visionary leadership required to transform communities and nations through digital literacy initiatives.
