Jan Lynch of Lions World Services for the Blind gives hope and digital skills to individuals with physical, employment barriers
SALT LAKE CITY — September 22, 2008
Certiport today announced Jan Lynch, an assistive technology trainer with Lions World Services for the Blind in Little Rock, Arkansas, has been selected as a 2008 Champion of Digital Literacy. The program recognizes the outstanding contributions of individuals throughout the world who champion the cause of digital literacy. Lynch develops trainers who become experts in assistive technologies and in digital literacy validated by the globally recognized Certiport Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³®). Trainers who complete Lynch's course are qualified to assist other individuals with visual impairments acquire current and relevant skills through certification.
Lynch marvels at the personal transformations she has witnessed in her tenure at Lions World Services. One program participant, a Cambodian woman who was not only visually and hearing impaired but also lacked the use of her legs and one hand, was hired upon completion of the program.
"For me it's been awesome to watch, but for them, it's been life-changing," she said.
Champions of Digital Literacy was established to honor the exemplary efforts of individuals across the globe who transform the landscape of education and employment through championing the adoption of digital literacy standards. Each year, nominations are received from around the world and award recipients are selected based on the measurable scope and social impact of their efforts.
