Digital Skills Championship to Showcase Adobe Certified Associate Student Audiences Worldwide

New competition reflects convergence of 21st Century skills using dynamic, multimedia, video, graphic and Web software

SALT LAKE CITY – January 14, 2010

Ray Kelly, CEOCertiport announced the launch of the Adobe® Certified Associate (ACA) Championship, a new competition that will encourage ACA certified students to showcase their digital communication abilities using Adobe Flash®, Photoshop® and Dreamweaver®.

Having developed digital skills in graphic design, web creation and video production in sync with actual workforce needs, students have the opportunity to exhibit certifiable traits that are positive indicators of future job performance and competition success.

Research suggests digital media tasks are required more and more across all industries than they were five years ago. A recent study, "Digital Media Skills Initial Findings," found animation, video, audio and websites are quickly becoming mainstream job activities. Students will now be able to demonstrate digital communications proficiency via this competition, available to thousands of academic institutions worldwide.

Certiport instructors are encouraged to submit students' original concepts and artwork in any of three categories:

  • Rich Media using Adobe® Flash®
  • Visual Communication using Adobe® Photoshop®
  • Web Communication using Adobe® Dreamweaver®

Entry submissions will be available for viewing on a Facebook album and public comment is encouraged. The social media website will allow participating students to drive public voting. The entry in each category to receive the most votes determines the winners, announced June 29, 2010.

"We feel this groundbreaking competition is an excellent way to identify and inspire new ideas of learning on many levels in an increasingly digital world," said Quinn Sutton, Certiport's Senior Vice President of Marketing. "Students who have an ACA credential are proficient users of the software businesses depend on to stay competitive and now students have a venue to share their vision and creativity with a worldwide community."

Like students who pursue certification to validate skills, teachers look to enhance their own teaching credentials by earning an industry-recognized certification. Each instructor, required to register in order for students to participate, will compete in a subsequent competition. Points and an overall prize package will be awarded for personal ACA certification, the number of student ACA certifications and the number of student artwork entries accepted for the ACA Championship.

"Certiport is doing more than creating a new opportunity for students to showcase their ability to use the digital media skills needed to plan, design, build and maintain effective communications," said Anuja Dharkar, Adobe Worldwide Education Manager, Curriculum and Professional Development. "They are creating an outlet for students to demonstrate real-world application of their skills to potential employers, their peers and instructors."

In order to compete, current students must be enrolled in an approved, degree-seeking academic institution and become ACA certified. The winning student entry in each category will receive a grand-prize package including: $2,500 USD scholarship, the latest Adobe® Creative Suite software package and an Apple store gift card.
